Career Development Seminar

General information on the Career Development Seminar:

Financially supported by the Dutch Police Organisations IPO and LECD, the Estonian Police, Stadtpolizei Zürich and the Hungarian National Police, the ENP organised 16 Career Development Seminars. This year, the ENP is happy to announce that the Danish National Police has adopted the ENP-project "CDS" (Career Development Seminar) and is financially supporting the seminar which is organized in cooperation with the Nordic Baltic Network of Policewomen. This seminar has proven to be very successful. The success formula contains two important components; Participants learn ways to optimise their skills and competences in relation to future promotion, and then there is the important added value, namely international representation. In this sense the participants are provided the opportunity not only to exchange knowledge and experiences with colleagues, but they can gather information about different approaches, working conditions etc. within various European countries.

Objectives of the seminar:

Target group:
The training is intended for women who hold a middle management or supervisory position within European police forces, or women who are expected to hold such a position in the near future.

Number of students:
A maximum of 15 participants. In order to guarantee an international representation the aim will be to provide a delegation of a maximum of 3 participants per country.

Content and working method:
The training covers a period of 5 days and consists of 10 day sessions

Language:
The training will be conducted in English. Therefore fluency in the English language will be an asset.

General information on the Management & Leadership Seminar

The ENP has launched a new training namely the Management & Leadership training. This training is a ‘follow-up’ of the ENP’s Management Toolkit Training launched in 2003.

Although there is a consensus within police organisations that women are desired in leading functions, they are still underrepresented in management level and have to deal with specific situations to be a leader within a male dominated environment.

Objectives
This 4 ½ days seminar will form an opportunity to exchange experience on this situation in different countries. Furthermore it will provide the participants with input such as management tasks and roles, different leadership styles and skills, empowerment, communication and networking. The participants will get the opportunity to reflect on challenges and to deal with possible obstacles within their organization as well as within their own perception.

This training is highly participative and the participants will assess their individual qualifications and strength and will practice leadership skills in order to develop or improve strategies in dealing with management responsibilities.

Target group
The training is intended for women holding a leading position / management function within European police services.

Number of participants
A maximum of 12 participants. In order to guarantee an international representation the aim will be to provide a delegation of a maximum of 2 participants per country.

Language

The training will be conducted in English. Therefore fluency in the English language will be an asset.
